For a quick first impression of the new Kitchen 64, check out John Sarvay's post at Buttermilk & Molasses. Although the wait has been long, I'm recommending everyone wait just a little longer to give the place a try. The exceptionally talented Giavos/Von Ofenheim/Perkinson restaurant team should be given a little space and a little time to get a handle on serving the exceptionally large crowds that seem to turn up every night. Long-time veterans all, even they've been taken back by the overwhelming response to their newest venture.
Did I mention that they're friends of mine? So cut them some slack! I haven't even been there yet!
We have been there the past two Fridays, only to leave disappointed once we found the wait for a table to be an hour or more.
It's great to see it be so successful right out of the gate, but I guess we'll have to wait until the buzz dies down a bit before we get to try it -- or maybe I just need to time my arrival for just before the crowd hits.

I went late last Thursday after a great Medeski, Martin, & Wood show at Lewis Ginter. We arrived at 9:30 on a Thursday night and the joint was jumpin. It was nice to see Johnny, Katrina, and Dean all working the crowd. Had a nostalgic kind of meal with Greek Nachos and a Manolito sandwich-a nod to Kuba Kuba. A nice imitation but it fell short of the original. Great fries though.
I'll be back and back, and probably back again.

I give every new restaurant I patronize up to 3 strikes before I write them off. Kitchen 64 already has 2 in my book. Like many Northsiders I eagerly awaited the opening and couldn’t wait to get in there. Sadly both my visits have been sullied by an unprofessionally run restaurant. Both times my appetizer appeared after my dinner. On my first visit it took 1 hour and 9 minutes to produce a cobb salad. Both visits had me having to visit the bar to get tea refills. I ask coworkers and friends their experiences and they all have the same experience with the apps and refills. This place needs to get it together or change it’s name to Kitchen Closed!

I have been in twice and both times I have enjoyed the food, but the staff has left a bad taste in my mouth. The hostess on each visit was rude. The wait staff was not much better. Too many places to choose from to go back and deal with bad service.
